As I started this article, I was shocked to see it was the first Eminem article I did for DKMR. Since I started the site back July 2012, he really hasn’t been doing much. That’s all changed now of course as his newest album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 coming out this November. With the release of a new album means the release of some new music videos. Slim Shady has released the first single from his upcoming album and it’s called Berzerk. He released it a few weeks ago but the video hasn’t premiered yet. He did however offer his fans a teaser when he showed during halftime at the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game on ESPN.
Eminem stuck around a bit after the teaser to talk a bit more with the ESPN announcers. The video, like the song, is taking a step back into old school hip-hop. It’s even pushing that point by making it look as if it was recorded on a VHS tape. There are parts which even pay homage to the Beastie Boys’ So What Cha Want music video.
The song of course features sampling from The Beastie Boys’ The New Style and (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) along with Billy Squier’s The Stroke. The video is packed with cameos too including Berzerk producer Rick Ruben along with Royce Da 5’9, Kenrick Lamar and Slaughterhouse. The song itself is blowing up as it sits at #3 on the Hot 100 and at #1 on the Rap Songs chart.
A lyric video for Berzerk was uploaded to Eminem’s YouTube channel which I included below…
I am really looking forward to MMLP2. I of course LOVED the first Marshall Mathers LP when it came out way back in the year 2000. With the way he’s bleached his hair and sounds some-what angery in Berzerk, I think he’s trying to make the statement that his Slim Shady persona is coming back. Guess we’ll see when his Marshall Mathers LP 2 comes out on November 5, 2013. Source: HollywoodReporter.com
