We have been hearing about this RoboCop re-boot for YEARS. Originally announced back in 2005, the project came to a halt in 2006. It was mentioned again later in 2008 with teaser posters announcing a release date of 2010 with Darren Aronofsky attached to direct. 2010 came and MGM once again delayed the movie after seeing the positive reactions to James Cameron’s Avatar. MGM executives decided they wanted RoboCop to be in 3D so the film was again put on hold and at this point Aronofsky dropped out.
Finally in 2011 a script was written up. In 2012 actors like Joel Kinnaman (playing Alex Murphy) and Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel and Abbie Cornish joined the cast. Production officially started in 2012 and NOW we finally have a trailer.
I think this flick will be pretty damn righteous. I probably won’t see it in theaters but I am anxious to see it. I dig the fact that they do rock the original RoboCop design before upgrading it to a tactical design with black instead of silver. That robot voice sounds awesome too! Awesome sound effects!
While the death of Alex Murphy won’t be as enjoyable or violent as the original, I think the film will still be a fun flick to watch. I enjoyed the first RoboCop but felt he was too stiff and couldn’t move like the real bad-ass that he was. I think this film will fix that and we’ll see RoboCop (or at least his CGI equivalent) do some kick ass stunts. Plus…I mean come on…it’s got Michael F….G Keaton.
RoboCop is set to hit theaters February 7, 2014.
